Leading actor to become Globe artistic director

Michelle Terry named as Globe Artistic Director

Leading stage actor Michelle Terry has been announced as the new artistic director for Shakespeare’s Globe from next April. The Olivier Award winner has appeared to great acclaim in numerous Shakespeare productions at the Globe and the National Theatre and most recently starred as the eponymous king in Henry V at Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre. She will take over from Emma Rice who last October announced her resignation only six months after arriving in the role. Michelle will become artistic director designate in October and then take over fully in April next year.   Rhys Ifans is to star as Ebenezer Scrooge in a new production of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol at the Old Vic Theatre in November 2017. The new adaptation is by Jack Thorne (Harry Potter And The Cursed Child) and will be directed by the  Old Vic Artistic Director Matthew Warchus. The classic Christmas tale which sees a cold-hearted miser visited by four ghosts on Christmas Eve is an uplifting tale of redemption and a firm family favourite. Ifans recently performed in King Lear at the Old Vic and is perhaps best known for his film work including Snowden, Notting Hill, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1, and Elizabeth – The Golden Age.
