Keith Jack is currently touring the UK playing Nick Piazza in Fame the musical. Here he talks to Sammy Jones about appearing in the iconic musical. After a long association with Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, this is a chance for Keith Jack to stretch his wings a little, and he is relishing the thought of playing Nick Piazza in this modern classic. He says: “It’s a completely different role for me, for one I don’t wear a loincloth, and I’m not topless, which is quite nice. I get to wear clothes! People will come along and expect something of me and see something slightly different.” “Nick is an actor who started off doing a TV commercial, and became famous from doing younger stuff, but he wants to go away and train to become a ‘real actor’ to do Shakespeare, and not just be seen as ‘that TV boy,” … Read more

A new production of the musical The Wedding Singer will tour the UK in 2017. Based on the hit film of the same name the tour will open at the Leicester Curve on 6 February 2017. It’s 1985. Hair is huge, greed is good and rock-star wannabe Robbie Hart is New Jersey’s favourite wedding singer. Only Grandma Rosie seems to be able to see that Robbie and Julia are the couple that are meant to be. The Wedding Singer cast will include Jon Robyns (Avenue Q, Spamalot, Legally Blonde) as … Read more
Thanks to this energetic reimagining, Annie can finally escape the chorus of groans that once accompanied its name. It’s once again acceptable to hum Charles Strouse’s Tomorrow (boy oh boy!) and soak up Thomas Meehan’s saccharine rags to riches story – just as I did when I was seven. Foster’s fast-paced and punchy production – touring the UK until June 2016 – has given one very old dog a fresh lease of life, bringing Annie back for a new, let’s face it, more discerning generation. And they’ve done so with gusto.
This is a theatrical treat: a good, old fashioned musical done in a new fangled way. It’s great to hear such good songs so well sung by a cast that basically accompanies itself. Prenger’s crowd pleasing turn as Calamity, together with first class support from Lister, Delaney, Street and Hammond ensures an evening that moves along at Whip Crack Away pace and makes you long for those Black Hills of Dakota.
