It’s been a busy week in London’s West End this week. Here is this week’s West End Weekly Round Up. SHOWS ANNOUNCED To follow up his plays Jerusalem and The River, Jes Butterworth will premiere his new play The Ferryman at the Royal Court. The play became the fastest selling play ever at the Royal Court selling out in less than a day. The Ferryman has now announced its transfer to the Gielgud Theatre in June following the closure of the long-running The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Night-Time on 3rd June. Jez Buttwerworth’s new play The Ferryman has become the fastest selling play in the history of the Royal Court Theatre. As a result, it has been announced that the play will transfer to the Gielgud Theatre for 16 weeks from 20 June 2017. Tickets are now on sale. Rural Derry, 1981. The Carney farmhouse is a hive of activity with preparations for the annual harvest.  A day of hard work on the land and a traditional night of feasting and celebrations lie ahead. But this year they will be interrupted by a visitor. Multi award-winning actor, director and writer Paddy Considine will be joined by Laura Donnelly and Genevieve O’Reilly in the production directed by Sam Mendes. Standing Ovations - To stand or not to stand?

Wikipedia defines a Standing Ovation as a form of applause where members of a seated audience stand up while applauding after extraordinary performances of particularly high acclaim. It’s a form of celebration that dates back to ancient Rome and is one of the highest forms of thanks or praise afforded to a performer in the theatre or at least it used to be. In times past, the Standing Ovation was something that was given by audiences to exceptional or outstanding performances. There are stories in the annals of theatre history which have Standing Ovations lasting for up to half an hour at farewell performances, other productions use dance dominated curtain calls to get the crowds on their feet proclaiming ” A Standing Ovation Every Night”, which whilst the show may have been good is probably more than a slight exaggeration. We thought it would be fun to share with you some of the tracks we are listening to at BritishTheatre.com HQ as well as tracks from some of the shows in the West End and on Broadway at the moment. This month we’ve included a tribute to Andrew Lloyd Webber who has become the first composer since Rodgers and Hammerstein to have four musicals running concurrently on Broadway. Following the success of Mel Brooks’ smash hit musical The Producers comes Young Frankenstein – a new musical comedy based on Brooks’ smash hit movie of the same name which will open at London’s Garrick Theatre on 28 September 2017. Young Frankenstein tickets are now on sale. Young Frankenstein, the wickedly inspired re-imagining of the Mary Shelley classic, see’s Frederick Frankenstein, an esteemed New York brain surgeon and professor, inherit a castle and laboratory in Transylvania from his deranged genius grandfather, Victor Von Frankenstein. Following a critically acclaimed season in 2015 at The Hope Theatre, Bill Rosenfield’s coming of age and coming out play 46 Beacon is to transfer to London’s Trafalgar Studios 2 in April 2017 for a limited season. Set in 1970’s Boston, Alan and Robert spend a balmy July evening hoping for a connection – emotional or physical. The address is 46 Beacon, a theatrical hotel, whilst Robert and Alan are at different stages of their lives, they each have something the other yearns for! Bill Rosenfield said, “I couldn’t be happier that a semi-autobiographical account of a special night in my life is opening in the West End.
