Mack and Mabel UK Tour 2015

It has been announced that Michael Ball will play Mack Sennett in a major new revival of Jerry Herman’s Mack and Mabel which will play at the Chichester Festival Theatre prior to touring. Mack and Mabel is the story of the relationship between silent film star Mabel Normand and Keystone Cops director Mack Sennett. The productions will be directed by Jonathan Church and choreographed by Stephen Mear. Mack And Mabel received eight Tony nominations when it opened on Broadway in 1974.  Herman’s other shows include The Grand Tour, Hello Dolly! There is a joy to this piece that is impossible to truly describe in words—it has the boisterous nature of Spring Awakening (the musical) but without sung through moments, although the two school uniformed guitarists who make up the pit (or rather balcony) band certainly make you wonder when Melchior is going to come on stage with his wireless hand mic. But where Spring Awakening digs into the cold, Future Conditional runs to the warmth of the cliched hearth.

Two New Phantoms Announced

John Owen-Jones and Ben Forster to star as The Phantom Of The Opera

Major cast changes are afoot at The Phantom Of The Opera with the announcement today that John Owen-Jones will return to the role of The Phantom from 7 September 2015, with Ben Forster taking on the role from 1 February 2016. John Owen-Jones has now played the role of The Phantom  more than any other actor in the West End production’s history.  John’s last performance will be on Saturday 30 January 2016 when Ben Forster will take over fresh from the season of Elf at London’s Dominion Theatre where he will play Buddy. Joining both Owen-Jones and Forster will be Celinde Schoenmaker as Christine Daaé; Nadim Naaman as Raoul, Michael Matus as Monsieur Firmin and Christopher Dickins as Monsieur André.
