Hamilton London Announces Preview Postponement

Cameron Mackintosh has today announced that previews for the London production of Hamilton will now begin on 6 December rather than the originally announced 21 November 2017. The ofiicial opening night will now take place on 21 December 2017. The delay has been caused by delays to the multi-million pound refurbishment of the Victoria Palace Theatre. Cameron Mackintosh said: “The massive redevelopment in Victoria by Land Securities and Transport For London gave me a once in a hundred years opportunity to expand and restore the Victoria Palace Theatre.  It has been an extraordinary undertaking, both thrilling and fraught, not only because of the complexity of putting what is practically a brand new building into the shell of a much loved historical masterpiece, but because it was also the ideal theatre for the most eagerly awaited American musical in decades ‘Hamilton’.  The time constraints to access the land around the theatre … Read more

Ann Emery Retires From Billy Elliot

After 10 years, Ann Emery has retired from playing the role of Grandma in Billy Elliot The Musical. Ann originated the role of Grandma in the show when it opened in the West End and will now be replaced by Gillian Elisa who alternated the role. Gillian said: “I first joined the cast in 2011 and have loved every moment working on this special show. It’s a real privilege to take this iconic role on full time.” Britishtheatre.com would like to wish Ann a happy retirement. Today, 19 November 2014, eleven year-old Brodie Donougher from Blackpool, gives his first performance in the title role of the internationally award winning Billy Elliot the Musical. Brodie joins a cast lead by Ruthie Henshall who plays Mrs Wilkinson, Billy’s dance teacher and Deka Walmsley who plays Billy’s dad, and becomes the thirty-ninth boy to perform the iconic role at the Victoria Palace Theatre and the seventy-sixth boy to perform the role worldwide, including Jamie Bell who played Billy Elliot in the award-winning film. Also joining the cast today will be 10 year old Connie Fisher from Northallerton, North Yorkshire, who will play Mrs Wilkinson’s daughter Debbie.
