Kramer and the cast of Romeo and Juliet deserve praise for taking a well-trod story and giving it a fresh, interesting and exciting new slant.
At the interval and the end- especially at the end- the audience, which included a large element of young people, erupted with a spontaneous cheering, whooping enthusiasm- it was the perfect response to this enjoyable production.
Producers have just released the following statement regarding Richard Madden and the Kenneth Branagh Theatre Company’s production of Romeo and Juliet:- The Kenneth Branagh Theatre Company today sadly announced that due to medical advice, Richard Madden will not be returning to the company of Romeo and Juliet before the production completes its run on 13 August. Richard Madden injured his ankle last month whilst running and has been receiving physiotherapy since. However, although Richard is expected to make a full recovery, the injury to Richard’s ankle has not healed as quickly as hoped, and as a result his doctors have prescribed further rest which makes it impossible for him to return to the stage before the production closes. This Romeo and Juliet are not gushy and are more than the Innamorati of Commedia Dell’arte. They are (James especially) sincere and relatable versions of two sweethearts.
