As a tool to start conversations, as well as being a decently entertaining piece of theatre, How To Be A Kid is a high quality, endearing and surprisingly complex production.
Black Mountain is another strong production from Paines Plough. The dialogue whips along in this well acted production.
Four productions by leading theatre company Paines Plough are to transfer to London’s Orange Tree Theatre after touring. Black Mountain by Brad Birch, Out Of Love by Elinor Cook and How To Be A Kid by Sarah McDonald-Hughes will transfer to the theatre in Richmond in a co-production with Plaines Plough, Orange Tree Theatre and Theatr Clwyd. They will run from January 22 to March 3, 2018. The three plays – part of Paines Plough’s pop-up Roundabout theatre programme – will be preceded by the company’s global phenomenon Every Brilliant Thing which will play at Orange Tree Theatre from October 9 to 28, 2017. New short plays by Tom Wells and other writers will be staged by Paines Plough in Hull to tie in with it being the UK’s City of Culture for 2017.
Paines Plough is to take the hugely acclaimed show Every Brilliant Thing by Duncan Macmillan on a new tour across the UK as well as to Ireland and France. Beginning at Quarry Theatre in Bedford on May 2, it will visit over 25 venues, performed by James Rowland who won plaudits during the 2017 tour of the play in Australia and New Zealand. On May 17, the production will, for the first time, be performed simultaneously in Sheffield and Paris, with Jonny Donahoe – the show’s original performer – stepping into the role in France. This is a play about an issue many young men may not want to face- in fact the word cancer isn’t spoken. Well worth checking out- then check them out lads! Highly recommended.
