The award-winning production of The Curious Incident Of the Dog In The Night-Time at London’s Gielgud Theatre has welcomed a new cast this week. The new West End is led by Sion Daniel Young as Christopher Boone. He is joined by Rebecca Lacey as Siobhan, Nicolas Tennant as Ed, Mary Stockley as Judy, Jacqueline Clarke as Mrs Alexander, Indra Ové as Mrs Shears, Stephen Beckett as Roger Shears, Matthew Trevannion as Mr Thompson, Pearl Mackie as No. 40/Punk Girl, Sean McKenzie as Reverend Peters and Kaffe Keating plays alternate Christopher. Shakespeare has been re-imagined in many locations over the year and now the Bard’s Midsummer Night’s Dream will find itself set in New Orleans in a new production being staged by Ruby In The Dust. This unique version of A Midsummer Night’s Dream will have a jazz infused feel with music played live by the cast including material by Dr John, Louis Armstrong, Randy Newman and Professor Longhair, amongst others. This ‘Dream’ is adapted and edited by Linnie Reedman stays faithful to the original text, whilst exploring the rich culture of New Orleans and the influences of Voodoo. While ‘another hundred people got onto their trains’, your reviewer exchanged pleasantries with a very debonair Mad Hatter and a droll White Rabbit. Tarts with hearts (baked) were scattered temptingly around the different levels of this charming period building, and we could explore the cluttered, over-furnished Edwardian rooms at leisure….. It was announced today that The 39 Steps will close on 5 September 2015 after a nine year run at the Criterion Theatre. The production which has been seen by over 3 million people worldwide will have played the 5th highest number of performances of any play in West End history. Over the past 9 years, the production has seen more than 50 actors tread its boards and between them they have got through over 3,000 pairs of stockings, 530 O/S maps of Scotland, 38 pairs of handcuffs and 16 suspender belts. 201 Dance Company have launched a Kickstarter campaign to help take their new show Smother to the Edinburgh Fringe. 201 Dance Co is a new company bringing together experienced artists and producers to create daring new work that is socially responsive and accessible. The company was founded by Andrea Walker who began his dancing career in Rome, Italy aged 14. The company’s ethos centres around creating challenging dance-theatre that crosses urban and contemporary genres. We are driven to confront controversial issues and challenge social prejudices, and through ‘If You Leave’ will begin to partner with advocacy and outreach charities to use exceptional dance theatre as a vehicle for engaging audiences in topical social issues.
