The Winter’s Tale Tops UK Cinema Box Office

Having sold out it’s entire run at the Garrick Theatre, the Kenneth Branagh Theatre Company‘s production of Shakespeare’s The Winter’s Tale topped the UK Box Office Charts this week when it grossed £1.1 million at screenings around the country. The Winter’s Tale was screened to 520 cinemas across the UK and 1300 cinemas worldwide. Encore broadcasts will be held across the UK during the Christmas period. The screening of the production beat The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 2 to claim the top spot. The Winter’s Tale, Shakespeare’s timeless tragicomedy of obsession and redemption, which opened to critical acclaim at London’s Garrick Theatre on 7 November, is reimagined in a new production co-directed by Rob Ashford and Kenneth Branagh. Romeo And Juliet – First Image Released

The Kenneth Branagh Theatre Company has released this first look image from their production of Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare. Romeo and Juliet reunites Richard Madden and Lily James, the stars of Branagh’s celebrated film Cinderella. Kenneth Branagh will directShakespeare’s tale of forbidden love which will be performed at the Garrick Theatre from 12 May to 13 August 2016. Aladdin London – Full Casting Announced

Jade Ewen and Dean John Wilson will star in Disney's Aladdin in London.

Disney Theatrical Productions have announced that Dean John-Wilson will play the role of Aladdin in the West End premiere of Disney’s latest musical hit. Dean will be joined by Jade Ewen as Jasmine, Don Gallagher as Jafar, Peter Howe as Iago, Irvine Iqbal as the Sultan, Nathan Amzi as Babkak, Stephen Rahman-Hughes as Kassim and Rachid Sabitri as Omar. As previously announced, Broadway cast member Trevor Dion Nicholas will make his London stage debut as Genie. Final casting has been announced today for the European premiere of Grey Gardens the musical which will play at the Southwark Playhouse from Saturday 2 January – Saturday 6 February 2016. The musical Grey Gardens is based on the iconic documentary, telling real life rise and fall of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis’s aunt and cousin, Edith and Edie Bouvier Beale.  Starting in 1941 at an engagement party at Grey Gardens, the Bouvier’s mansion in East Hampton, Long Island, the musical tracks the progression of the two women’s lives from American aristocrats to reclusive social outcasts living in such squalid conditions, in a home overrun by cats, that the Health Department deemed the mansion ‘unfit for human habitation’.
