Following a critically acclaimed tour, it has been announced by producers Tom O’Connell and James Seabright that Mart Crowley’s The Boys In The Band will transfer to London’s Vaudeville Theatre for a strictly limited two-week season from 7 February – 18 February 2017. Having sold out its five-week run at the Park Theatre and played to packed houses on it’s brief UK tour, the play’s original cast will move with the production to the West End. The production stars Olivier Award winner Mark Gatiss as ‘Harold’ alongside his husband Ian Hallard as ‘Michael’ – this will represent the first time in West End history that a male married couple will appear on stage together. All credit to director Adam Penford and the terrific cast for restoring the play back to the canon, and, in the intimacy of the Park Theatre, it now looks like an honest portrait of gay life and a period of time, when being in the closet was the only option many gay men saw as a means of survival.
