McBurney’s The Encounter comes to Manchester this March

The Encounter, Simon McBurney’s spell-binding solo performance for Complicite, the big hit of last year’s Edinburgh Festival, opens its UK tour at Home in Manchester. Threading scenes of his own life with details of National Geographic photographer Loren McIntyre’s journey, Simon McBurney incorporates objects and sound effects into this solo performance to evoke the depths of the Amazon rainforest. The show’s ground-breaking binaural sound (3D audio) design, by Olivier Award Winner Gareth Fry, is transmitted to the audience through provided headphones and plugs into the power of the imagination, questioning our perceptions of time and our own consciousness. Game director returns to the Almeida to take on world premiere

Sacha Wares will be returning to Almeida Theatre to direct the world premiere of Boy by Leo Butler, after her directorial success in 2015 with the critically acclaimed production, Game, by Mike Bartlett. Wares is joined by a formidable creative team, including contemporary designers Miriam Buether for set design (Wild Swans, Sucker Punch, My Child, Generations) and Ultz for costume (Jerusalem, Hobson’s Choice, Fallout, Pied Pier). Further creative credits include movement by Leon Baugh, lighting by Jack Knowles and sound by Gareth Fry. Charles Dicken’s A Christmas Carol returns to the London stage later this year in a new version adapted by Patrick Barlow and starring Academy Award-winning actor Jim Broadbent. Jim Broadbent will be joined by an exciting group of performers who will bring characters from Tiny Tim to Bob Cratchit to life as part of Dicken’s tale of grief, ghoulish ghosts, greed and eleventh-hour redemption. Harry Potter And The Cursed Child To Open In The West End in Summer 2016

It has been announced that Harry Potter will come to the West End Stage in Summer 2016 in a new play entitled Harry Potter And The Cursed Child. The play will be based on an original story by J.K Rowling, Jack Thorne and John Tiffany, the play by Jack Thorne will open at the Palace Theatre. Rowling has already stated that the play will not be a Potter prequel. Little else is known about the play but Jack Thorne made the following Twitter comment “Re Harry Potter, can’t say anything, other than playing in jk_rowling‘s sandpit is the greatest honour & the greatest fun”.
