Everybody’s Talking About Jamie, the new musical that was a hit at Sheffield Crucible, is to transfer to London’s West End in November. The show, about a 16-year-old’s journey to being himself in drag, will run at the Apollo Theatre from November 22, with previews from November 6. It premiered in Sheffield in February this year. John McCrea will reprise the lead role of Jamie alongside most of the Sheffield Crucible cast including Josie Walker, Mina Anwar, Tamsin Carroll, Daniel Anthony, Luke Baker, Courtney Bowman, James Gillian, Harriet Payne, Shiv Rabheru, Lucie Shorthouse and Kirstie Skivington. Inspired by a documentary telling the true story of 16-year-old Jamie Campbell, the musical was developed by composer Dan Gillespie Sells and writer and lyricist Tom MacRae with director Jonathan Butterell. The acclaimed Theatre Royal Bath production of Daniel Kehlmann’s The Mentor starring Oscar winner F Murray Abraham is about to begin its West End run. The Mentor runs from June 24 to September 2 at the Vaudeville Theatre with a cast that also includes Daniel Weyman, Naomi Frederick and Jonathan Cullen. This production, translated by Academy Award-winning Christopher Hampton, marks the first time that the bestselling German author’s play has been performed outside of Germany. It is directed by Olivier Award-winning Laurence Boswell who is artistic director of Theatre Royal Bath’s Ustinov Studio where the play enjoyed a record-breaking run earlier this year – the most successful in the studio’s history. Underbelly Productions have today announced full casting for a brand new production of Clarke Peters’ Olivier Award-winning and Tony-Award nominated musical, Five Guys Named Moe. The production will open on 14 September 2017 in a new temporary theatre in Marble Arch, London. Edward Baruwa will play Nomax and the ‘Moes’ will be played by: Ian Carlyle (Four-Eyed Moe), Dex Lee (Know Moe), Idriss Kargbo (Little Moe), Timothy Martin (Big Moe) and Emile Ruddock (Eat Moe). Underbelly have also released the first look at how the inside of the new Marble Arch Theatre will look. Specifically designed for the production will be reminiscent of 1940s New Orleans Jazz clubs, occupying the whole space. Giles Terera and Danielle Tarento are presenting a West End fundraising gala evening of song, dance and comedy for the hundreds of families made homeless and the relatives of those who lost their lives in the Grenfell Tower fire. SONGS AND SOLIDARITY will take place at Trafalgar Studios 1 on Sunday 25 June at 7.30pm. Among a host of people taking part are Jason Manford, Mark Thomas, Dreamgirls star Tyrone Huntley, Wicked star Rachel Tucker, West End composers Stiles and Drewe, playwright, novelist, critic and broadcaster Bonnie Greer and the West End Gospel Choir. For its 30th Anniversary Season, The National Youth Ballet of Great Britain (“The NYB”) will present Time in Motion, a mixed programme of ballets choreographed by some of the UKs most eminent professionals and rising talents, performed by a company of young dancers aged 8-18 from across the UK. Time in Motion will encompass seven short ballets that together will make a compelling journey through time. Highlights include Scottish Ballet Artistic Director Christopher Hampson’s abstract ballet Carnival set to Saint-Saëns’s humorous score; Birmingham Royal Ballet soloist Jonathan Payn’s classical work IKEN inspired by the Suffolk landscape; a new narrative work by New Adventures Associate Director Etta Murfitt inspired by the Dream Ballet from Oklahoma; and Aspirations, a piece by English National Ballet School’s Director of Dance Samira Saidi. Producers have announced that Freema Agyeman (Doctor Who, Sense8, Torchwood), Desmond Barrit (RSC and National Theatre, Sir Peter Hall’s Henry IV Pts 1 and 2) and Joseph Millson (The Last Kingdom, Love Never Dies) will join Stockard Channing in Jamie Lloyd’s production of Apologia. Agyeman takes on the role of Claire, the actress girlfriend of Kristin’s son. Also announced are Olivier nominated Desmond Barrit and Joseph Millson. Barrit plays Hugh, Kristin’s longtime friend and ally, while Millson takes on dual roles as both of Kristin’s very different sons. A remarkable double. No, it’s not the equal of that brand-leader in terms of drama, music, choreography or staging, but Toby Gough’s work-a-day book serves up a revue-style panorama of popular Indian dance styles– keeping it strictly in the family –.
