Jesus Christ Superstar returns to Regent's Park Open Air Theatre

Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice’s Jesus Christ Superstar returns to Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre by popular demand following a sell out season last year. Jesus Christ Superstar features Tyrone Huntley (who won the Evening Standard Emerging Talent Award for his performance as Judas), Declan Bennett as Jesus, David Thaxton as Pilate and Peter Caulfield as Herod. With direction by Timothy Sheader, design by Tom Scutt, choreography by Drew McOnie, musical direction by Tom Deering, lighting design by Lee Curran and sound design by Nick Lidster for Autograph, the production won the BBC Radio 2 Audience Award for Best Musical in the Evening Standard Awards and has received 15 nominations in the BroadwayWorld Awards, including Theatrical Event of the Year. Globe brings to life plays before Shakespeare

  On a winter’s day in London in 1582, the court of Elizabeth I celebrated Christmas and New Year with a play packed full of bickering gods, magic spells and romantic intrigue. No records remain of further performances of The Rare Triumphs of Love and Fortune for another 435 years until it was revived in a staged reading at Shakespeare’s Globe this year. Despite its framing device of a debate between Venus, representing love, and a personification of fortune, the cast and director John Hopkins reveal this play, by an anonymous author, to be surprisingly entertaining and lively with plenty of opportunities for comedy. Leading actor to become Globe artistic director

Michelle Terry named as Globe Artistic Director

Leading stage actor Michelle Terry has been announced as the new artistic director for Shakespeare’s Globe from next April. The Olivier Award winner has appeared to great acclaim in numerous Shakespeare productions at the Globe and the National Theatre and most recently starred as the eponymous king in Henry V at Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre. She will take over from Emma Rice who last October announced her resignation only six months after arriving in the role. Michelle will become artistic director designate in October and then take over fully in April next year. FIRST LOOK: Trailer for Howard – documentary about lyricist Howard Ashman

We are pleased to brings you this first look preview at Don Hahn’s new documentary about the late lyricist Howard Ashman. Ashman and composer Alan Menken worked together on Little Shop Of Horrors, God Bless You Mr Rosewater and helped to revive Disney’s animation division with The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast and Aladdin. Ashman, who was openly gay, died of complications from AIDS eight months prior to the theatrical release of Beauty and the Beast in 1991. Documentary and film producer Don Hahn worked as producer on The Lion King and Beauty and the Beast. His previous documentary Waking Sleeping Beauty chronicles the period at Disney where Ashman and Menken helped to reinvigorate Disney animation. No release date for Howard has been announced as yet.
