Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre have announced their 2017 Season which will see Olivier Award-winner Drew McOnie direct and choreograph On The Town, Artistic Director Timothy Sheader directs Charles Dickens’ A Tale Of Two Cities in a new adaptation by Matthew Dunster, and Caroline Byrne directed Oliver Twist Created For Everyone Aged Six And Over, adapted by Anya Reiss from the novel by Charles Dickens. Jesus Christ Superstar, winner of the BBC Radio 2 Audience Award for Best Musical in the Evening Standard Awards will return by popular demand for just 41 performances. Producers have announced casting for the UK tour of Funny Girl following its acclaimed season at London’s Savoy Theatre last year. Playing opposite Sheridan Smith is Chris Peluso as Nick Arnstein – they will perform in Manchester, Milton Keynes, Liverpool, Bristol, Edinburgh, Birmingham, Newcastle, Southampton, Bradford, Southend, Cardiff and Dublin. Also announced today, the run will extend for a further two weeks, returning to Manchester to complete its run with Smith and Peluso playing the final dates. Natasha J Barnes and Darius Campbell will play Fanny Brice and Nick Arnstein in Stoke, Aberdeen, Woking, Canterbury, Glasgow, Nottingham, Norwich, Llandudno, Wolverhampton and Plymouth. The season will begin at the end of April with The Treatment, a play by Martin Crimp. Directed by Lyndsey Turner (returning to the Almeida following her award-winning production of Chimerica) The Treatment is set in a film studio in New York. A young woman has an urgent story to tell. But here, people are products, movies are money and sex sells. And the rights to your life can be a dangerous commodity to exploit. The producers of Wicked have confirmed today that the musical will return for a tour of the UK and Ireland from February 2018. Currently the 17th longest-running show in London theatre history, Wicked recently celebrated 10 years of performances at the Apollo Victoria Theatre. Wicked has now been seen by over 50 million people around the world, winning over 100 major theatre awards. The international touring production is currently playing in Hong Kong, It then transfers to Manila, Shanghai and Beijing before returning to the UK. The 2018 tour will play in Bristol, Liverpool, Birmingham, Edinburgh, Leeds, Dublin, Sunderland, Southampton, Cardiff and Manchester.
