Somewhat incredulously, the companion piece in this double bill, Black Comedy, an entertainment written purely for pleasure, really tells us more about sexual politics in the modern world than this take on Strindberg, whose own views have long been filed in the Male Supremacist file.

Craige Els is Matilda’s new Trunchbull

It has been announced that Craige Els will join the company of Matilda as Miss Trunchbull from September playing alongside James Clyde (Mr Wormwood), Haley Flaherty (Miss Honey) and Kay Murphy (Mrs Wormwood). Craige has previously appeared on stage in Timon of Athens, Antigone and The Cherry Orchard (National Theatre) and on screen in Ripper Street, The Bletchley Circle and Call The Midwife. Further theatre credits include Mamma Mia! (Novello), Oklahoma! (Chichester Festival Theatre), The New Yorkers (Sadler’s Wells), Never Forget (West End and Tour) and Spamalot (West End). Matilda Shapland and Violet Tucker will join Tasha Chapple and Lottie Sicilia in the title role from September 2014. The Bodyguard announces tour of UK and Ireland

Producers Michael Harrison and David Ian today announced the UK and Ireland tour dates for Thea Sharrock’s hit production of the West End musical The Bodyguard. The tour opened at the Mayflower Theatre, Southampton on Thursday 12 February 2015 before embarking on a two year UK and Ireland tour. Schedule below with further dates to be announced. Based on Lawrence Kasdan’s 1992 Oscar nominated Warner Bros. film, The Bodyguard has a book by Alex Dinelaris and opened at the Adelphi Theatre in London’s West End in December 2012, where it played to packed houses and standing ovations. It was nominated for four Laurence Olivier Awards including Best New Musical and Best Set Design.
