Tony Awards 2019 - Full Winners List and Video

The 73rd Annual Tony Awards were presented last night at Radio City Music Hall to celebrate the best of Broadway with British play The Ferryman and Anais Mitchell's Hadestown the major winners.

Hosted by James Corden, this year's Tony Awards saw Hadestown and The Ferryman dominate proceedings with 8 wins and four wins respectively including Best New Musical and Best New Play. The Boys In The Band won best revival of a play Oklahoma! won for best revival of a musical.

Hadestown with a score and book by Anais Mitchell and direction by Rachel Chavkin previewed at the National Theatre, London prior to its Broadway run. Mitchell is the third woman ever to win a Tony for writing music and lyrics for a Broadway musical, whilst Jessica Paz was the first woman to be nominated and win for sound design, an award she won with Nevin Steinberg her Hadestown co-sound designer.

Hadestown did not dominate all Tony Awards categories however, with Santino Fontana and Robert Horn winning for Best Performance by a Leading Actor in A Musical and Best Book Of A Musical for Tootsie, Stephanie J Block winning for Best Actress by a Leading Actress in a Musical for The Cher Show, and Serjio Trujillo of Ain't Too Proud winning for Best Choreography.

History was made when Ali Stroker became the first actor in a wheelchair to ever win a Tony Award when she won the award for Featured Actress in a Musical for her role in Oklahoma! Stoker said that she feels honored to act as a role model for others who are diabled. As an 11 year-old she yearned sor someone who looked like her on stage. “This award is for every kid who is watching tonight who has a disability, has a limitation or a challenge,” Stroker said after accepting her award.
