Rehearsals begin for War Horse UK Tour 2017-19

War Horse UK Tour Cast

Rehearsals began this week for the War Horse UK Tour. The National Theatre’s critically acclaimed production opens on the 15 September 2017 at the Marlowe Theatre in Canterbury and will tour until 2019. So large is the company of War Horse that a special 470 square metre rehearsal space has been custom built to accomodate the 34 cast and enormouse crew of the show. Making up the cast of War Horse are Thomas Dennis who is fresh from playing Christopher Boone in the National Theatre’s West End production of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time in the central role of Albert Narracott with fellow Curious cast member Jo Castleton as his mother Rose Narracott. Following its record-breaking eight year run at the New London Theatre, the National Theatre have announced a tour of War Horse that will visit Canterbury, Bristol, Liverpool, Oxford, Brighton, Bradford and Nottingham. War Horse has been seen by over seven million people worldwide and has won 25 awards including the Tony Award for Best Play on Broadway. Joey And Michael Morpurgo Walk Amongst The Poppies

On Sunday 19th October, best-selling author Michael Morpurgo was joined by Joey, the life-size horse puppet and star of the National Theatre’s production of War Horse visiting the poppies installation Blood Swept Lands And Seas Of Red at the Tower of London. Joey walked amongst the poppies and Michael Morpurgo planted a poppy and then returned to read the Roll of Honour. The installation at the Tower of London, marks one hundred years since the first full day of Britain’s involvement in the First World War. Created by ceramic artist Paul Cummins, with setting by stage designer Tom Piper, 888,246 ceramic poppies will progressively fill the Tower’s famous moat over the summer. Each poppy represents a British military fatality during the war.
