Following a run of more than two years in London’s West End, Sunny Afternoon – The Kinks Musical will end its run at the Harold Pinter Theatre on 29 October 2016. The critically-acclaimed musical Sunny Afternoon tells the story of the early life of Ray Davies and the rise to stardom of The Kinks. It has established itself as a firm favourite with audiences and critics alike since it opened at the Harold Pinter Theatre in October 2014. Sunny Afternoon starts touring the UK on 19 August 2016 at Manchester Opera House. First Look At New Cast Of Sunny Afternoon

New cast for Sunny Afternoon starts on 5 October 2015

It has been announced today that the new cast of Sunny Afternoon, the musical based on the music of The Kinks, will start in the Olivier Award-winning musical on 5th October 2015. The new cast is Danny Horn (Doctor Who; The Dead Dogs), who will play Ray Davies, with Oliver Hoare (Antony and Cleopatra, Chichester) as Dave Davies, Tom Whitelock (Times Square Angel, Union) as bassist Pete Quaife and Damien Walsh (Dreamboats and Petticoats) as drummer Mick Avory. At certain performances, the role of Ray Davies will be played by Ryan O’Donnell (Romeo and Juliet, RSC; Quadrophenia). The new trailer for Sunny Afternoon – The Kinks Musical was watched by more than 175,000 in the first 24 hours of its release on Tuesday. With music and lyrics by Ray Davies, a new book by Joe Penhall and direction by Edward Hall, Sunny Afternoon depicts the rise to stardom of The Kinks. Set against the back-drop of a Britain caught mid-swing between the conservative 50s and riotous 60s, this production explores the euphoric highs and agonising lows of one of Britain’s most iconic bands and the irresistible music that influenced generations. Featuring some of The Kinks’ best-loved songs, including You Really Got Me, Waterloo Sunset and Lola, Sunny Afternoon marks the 50th Anniversary year of the band’s debut release. Sunny Afternoon is continuing its run at the Harold Pinter Theatre.

Sunny Afternoon, the critically acclaimed new musical, which tells the story of the early life of Ray Davies and the rise to stardom of The Kinks, has released four preview tracks from the official cast recording album, released later this month, with a further three tracks still to be released. All 29 tracks on the album are performed entirely by members of the company, with John Dagleish as Ray Davies, George Maguire as Dave Davies, Ned Derrington as Pete Quaife and Adam Sopp as Mick Avory. Sunny Afternoon Extends Booking Period To 31 January 2015

Sunny Afternoon, the critically acclaimed new musical which tells the story of the early life of Ray Davies and the rise to stardom of The Kinks, has extended its run until 31 January 2015. The show begins previews at the Harold Pinter Theatre on 4 October 2014. Following a sold-out run at Hampstead Theatre, this world premiere production, with music and lyrics by Ray Davies and new book by Joe Penhall, will open on 28 October. The cast of Sunny Afternoon is currently in rehearsals with director Edward Hall, Ray Davies and Joe Penhall. An official cast recording album has been produced by Ray Davies at his Konk studios, and will be released in October on Chrysalis BMG. The theatre auditorium will be re-configured for the run of the hit show.
