Tracie Bennett to host the West End Gala of the 12th Annual Stephen Sondheim Society Student Performer Of The Year and 11th Annual Stiles and Drewe Prize. The 2018 competition will be staged at the Savoy Theatre on Sunday 10 June at 3pm. Chris Hocking returns to direct the annual gala which is to be hosted by Tracie Bennett, directed by Chris Hocking, musical direction by Mark Etherington. A special guest performer will be announced. This annual competition, co-produced by The Stephen Sondheim Society and Mercury Musical Developments, sees twelve of the top student performers from musical theatre and drama schools across the UK each perform a classic song by Stephen Sondheim and a new musical theatre song, written by members of Mercury Musical Developments. The Stephen Sondheim Society Student Performers Of The Year Award and the Stiles And Drewe Prize for Best New Song were held yesterday at London’s Novello Theatre. Clustered inside the theatre on a sunny London afternoon, the programme was hosted by Julian Ovenden and with performances from Ovenden, Sophie Louise Dann, Natasha Cottriall and former winners of the Performer Of The Year Award. Courtney Bowman won the Student Performer Of the Year Award (£1000 prize) with her performances of Me And My Town from Anyone Can Whistle and The Driving Lesson from the musical Heart Of Winter written by Tim O’Connor.
