Josie Lawrence to star in Mother Courage at Southwark Playhouse

Multi award-winning actress Josie Lawrence is to star in a new production of Mother Courage and her Children at Southwark Playhouse from November 2 – December 9, 2017. Bertolt Brecht’s classic play is translated by Tony Kushner, the Pulitzer Prize winning playwright whose epic play Angels In America is currently playing at the National Theatre. Josie said: “I first read Mother Courage when I was an 18-year-old drama student and immediately fell in love with the play. Now I feel ready to play her. Stella Gonet stars in revival of John Patrick Shanley’s Doubt A Parable

Stella Gonet to star in Doubt A Parable at Southwark Playhouse

  Stella Gonet will lead the cast in John Patrick Shanley’s acclaimed play Doubt, A Parable when it is revived for the first time in London in ten years. Gonet plays Sister Aloysius Beauvier, school principal and conservative head nun who questions a priests ambiguous relationship with a young troubled student. Stella’s stage and screen experience includes Skylight, Racing Demon and Ophelia in Hamlet opposite Daniel Day Lewis at the National Theatre. She played the lead role in the BBC drama The House Of Elliott and most recently was seen on stage as Mrs Thatcher in the Olivier Award-winning Handbagged. Stephen Schwartz pays a visit to Working at Southwark Playhouse

Stephen Schwartz visits the company of Working at Southwark Playhouse

On Monday night award-winning composer Stephen Schwartz (Pippin, Wicked, The Hunchback Of Notre Dame) paid a visit to Southwark Playhouse to see the production of his musical Working which is currently playing. The European premiere has music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz and includes songs by people such as Lin-Manuel Miranda and James Taylor.   The cast is led by Gillian Bevan, Dean Chisnall, Krysten Cummings, Siubhan Harrison, Peter Polycarpou and Liam Tamne and is directed by Luke Sheppard, with choreography by Fabian Aloise. Stephen said “I was delighted to see this extremely well-sung and well-staged production of Working. I’m looking forward to telling my co-authors what a great job has been done with our show”. Following a recent successful season, Kiki’s Delivery Service is returning to Southwark Playhouse for a limited Summer season from 10 August – 3 September 2017. Kiki is a 13 year old witch and, as tradition dictates, it is time for her to leave home and family to make a new life for herself. Equipped with her ability to fly and accompanied by Jiji, her faithful feline companion, she sets out to find a place where she can use her powers for the greater good and that one day she might call home. A magical tale of growing up and finding acceptance, Kiki’s Delivery Service is a story for everyone aged 7 and up.
