This year’s Olivier Awards look set to be amongst the most exciting in recent times with Harry Potter And The Cursed Child receiving 11 nominations, Groundhog Day (8 nominations), The Glass Menagerie (7 nominations)  and Dreamgirls (5 nominations) featuring prominently. Presented by The Society Of London Theatre, The Olivier Awards are named after Sir Laurence Olivier, one of Britain’s finest actors. Thies year the awards will be held on 9 April 2017 at The Royal Albert Hall in London. Dame Angela Lansbury wins her first ever Olivier Award for Blithe Spirit at the 2015 Olivier Awards

The 2015 Olivier Awards were held tonight at the Royal Opera House in London. Hosted by Lenny Henry, the evening was dominated by The Young Vic and Sunny Afternoon. The Young Vic’s production of A View From The Bridge won for Best Revival, Best Actor and Best Director whilst Sunny Afternoon won for Best New Musical, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor, and Outstanding Achievement in Music. Dame Angela Lansbury received her first ever Olivier Award for Best Supporting Actress. The Play That Goes Wrong won Mischief Theatre the award for Best Comedy. Beautiful – The Carole King Musical, Memphis and City Of Angels won two awards each. The evening concluded with a heartfelt rendition of Bridge Over Troubled Water by Kevin Spacey and Beverley Knight. Lenny Henry To Host 2015 Olivier Awards

Lenny Henry will host the 2015 Olivier Awards to be held at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden

It has just been announced that Lenny Henry will host the 2015 Olivier Awards in a ceremony to be held at the Royal Opera House on Sunday April 12. A celebrated comedian and performer for many years, Henry made his West End stage debut in 2003, receiving great acclaim for his performance in So Much Things To Say at Wyndham’s Theatre. Since then, he has gone on to have many notable stage roles, including the title role in the Northern Broadsides production of Othello, which toured the UK and had a successful run at London’s Trafalgar Studios. He returned to Shakespeare in 2011 taking to the stage at the National Theatre’s Olivier auditorium in the role of Antipholus of Syracuse in The Comedy Of Errors.
