The tour kicks off this week at the Churchill Theatre Bromley. Legally Blonde The Musical is an all singing, all dancing romantic comedy, a fun-filled, feel-good pink fest. College sweetheart and homecoming queen Elle Woods, doesn’t take no for an answer. Everyone’s favourite pink leading lady is back as Elle Woods once again returns in a new Legally Blonde UK Tour. When Elle is dumped by her boyfriend Warner Huntingdon III for a more serious girlfriend she puts down the credit cards and picks up the books. Packing up her trusty pooch, Bruiser, she bags herself a place at the prestigious Harvard Law School to try and win him back. Robert Mackintosh and Idili Theatricals Limited, in association with Theatr Clwyd and Wales Millennium Centre, will present the 20th Anniversary production of Jonathan Larson’s award-winning musical Rent. Jonathan Larson’s musical, inspired by Puccini’s opera La Bohème, won four Tony Awards, six Drama Desk Awards and the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1996. Ben Brantley’s New York Times review was a love letter to the show, calling RENT an “exhilarating, landmark rock opera”. RENT ran on Broadway for 12 years, from 1996 to 2008. The show premiered in London’s West End in 1998 at the Shaftesbury Theatre, where it ran for 18 months. It was adapted into a film in 2005. Larson’s world is inhabited by a group of bohemian artists who struggle to maintain their friendships and their non-conformist ideals in New York’s East Village. Musicals Unsung St James Studio Theatre 27 May 2016 4 Stars Musicals Unsung is an evening of songs cut from musicals. It’s an interesting premise and one that I found both entertaining and informative as a musical theatre lover. On this occasion, the song choices were decidedly modern with songs chosen from shows including The Last Five Years, Wicked, Shrek, Aladdin and The Drowsy Chaperone. The evening offered an insight into the process involved in developing musicals, and in some cases the fine tuning done to major musicals as they tour, or are made from animated features into stage musicals. Major musical motifs tend to remain in songs cut and replaced and it is usually easy to identify what shows are involved without being told. Curve’s artistic director, Nikolai Foster, has revealed the full company for his new production of the award-winning West End and Broadway smash hit musical comedy, Legally Blonde. The cast includes Tupele Dorgu who will play Paulette. Dorgu’s television credits include Kelly Crabtree in Coronation Street, Billionaire Boy, Cucumber, All at Sea,Waterloo Road and Merseybeat.  Her theatre credits include Educating Rita (Garrick Theatre), Chicago (UK Tour) and Mamma Mia (Prince of Wales Theatre). Dorgu joins Lucie Jones as Elle Woods, Ian Kelsey as Callahan, Jon Robyns as Emmett, Danny Mac as Warner, Natalie Hope as Brooke, Phoebe Street as Vivienne and Francesca Hoffman as Margot.
