It has just been announced that Billy Elliot the musical, is to tour the UK for the first time ever in 2016. Based on the highly successful film, the show is set in a northern mining town against the background of the 1984/’85 miners’ strike and follows Billy’s journey from boxing to ballet class where he discovers a passion for dance that inspires his family and whole community and changes his life forever. Billy Elliot has been acclaimed the world over and has now been seen by over 10.5 million people across five continents and is the recipient of over 80 awards internationally including ten Tony Awards and five Olivier Awards. Billy Elliot turns 10

Last night, Billy Elliot celebrated ten years in the West End. The show’s gala opening night took place exactly 10 years ago yesterday. To co-incide with the 10th anniversary, the show announced that it will launch it’s first UK tour in 2016 with dates to be announced shortly. In attendance last night were Elton John, Stephen Daldry, and Lee Hall. Elton John said: “When Stephen, Lee and I started work on Billy Elliot the Musical I knew this was going to be something very special. It’s no secret that I fell in love with the film and from that moment I was convinced Billy’s story should be seen on stage. Thomas Hazelby joins the cast of Billy Elliot to play the show's 40th Billy

As Billy Elliot celebrates 10 years in London, Thomas Hazelby from Doncaster becomes the fortieth boy to play the title role in the award-winning musical. Ten year old Thomas Hazelby said: “I am 10 years old and I live with my mum, dad and sister Maya in Doncaster. I started dancing at the age of three at my mum’s dance school, Hazelbiz Performers Academy. I was lucky enough to win my first national award when I was five years old at the British Championships. Before auditioning for Billy Elliot I trained with Miss Hatton on the Royal Ballet School Associate programme. The best day of my life was when I was offered the role of Billy Elliot.
