Some people attending probably only ever go to the theatre to see the Christmas panto, and this certainly doesn’t disappoint. Some attending may even by inspired to go and read up on the beautiful stories whence the title figure springs. And some will merely be grateful that this provides two and a half hours in which they do not have to try to entertain their children: the show will do that for them.

A production that charts the rise of Janis Joplin, one of rock’s greatest female icons, opens Theatre Royal Stratford East’s 2016 season on 10 February 2016. The show picked up multiple awards, and sold out its runs at Edinburgh’s Fringe Festival and is directed by critically acclaimed theatre actress and director, Cora Bissett. Angie Darcy won a Musical Theatre Network Award in 2014 for her performance in the title role. The play has also won Scottish Arts Club Awards and the Edinburgh Arts Guild Award for best production.
