Casting has been announced for concert gala The Best Of Rock Musicals in aid of The Charlie Waller Memorial Trust at the Eventim Hammersmith on 12 May 2019. The Best of Rock Musicals will feature New York’s Adam Pascal (Rent); Europe’s Adrianna Hicks (The Color Purple), Kristina Love (Tina) and David Michael Johnson (Jesus Christ Superstar); and London’s Kerry Ellis (Wicked) together with a host of Broadway and West End talent, the West End Chorus, the City of London Philharmonic AllStars. Kerry Ellis and Brian May have announced the indefinite postponement of their eleven candlelit concerts which would have been performed in the run up to Christmas. Apologising to fans through a personal message posted on his official website, Queen’s Brian May explains that he is fighting ‘a persistent illness which is destroying my energy and my will’, and doesn’t feel confident to perform the shows to the standard expected. May comments: “I’m gutted to have to pull out – I hate letting our loyal fans down. for me, ‘Murder Ballad’ is all about the exciting score which doesn’t depend on the screaming tenor, but on the sultry bass and an amalgamation of sexed up jazz/pop, with thirst-quenching rock belts (which are, of course, gratefully received). With their music and lyrics, Jordan and Nash blow the dust from the spine of a told tale.
Ramin Karimloo, Kerry Ellis and Preeya Kalidas will headline a concert production of Stephen Schwartz’s musical Godspell at St Paul’s Church in Covent Garden. The concert presentation will launch The British Theatre Academy, an organisation which has been set up to give young people who can not afford to access theatre theatre training the opportunity to work with top creatives in venues around the country. British Theatre Academy Artistic Director Matthew Chandler said: “I am delighted that Kerry, Ramin and Preeya are giving our kids the opportunity to work with such amazing, inspiring, world class talents.
