BritishTheatre.com is pleased to bring to you the poll results for the Greatest Show Tune Ever. Thousands of you nominated your favourites before a final voting list of 200 songs was produced and voting opened. What is shown below is not only the Greatest Ever Show Tune but the Top 50 Show Tunes from that vote. Les Miserables scored a phenomenal five songs in the top 20, three of those in the top 10. Stephen Sondheim was the most listed composer with 7 songs nominated, Alain Boublil and Claude Michel-Schoenberg with 6 songs with Alan Menken and Andrew Lloyd Webber tied with 3 each. A suprising poll result saw Le Jazz Hot from Victor/Victoria come in at number 8. Jennifer Hudson, James Corden, Taylor Swift and Sir Ian McKellen are to star in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Cats movie musical. Working Title and Universal have confirmed that Jennifer Hudson, Taylor Swift, James Corden and Sir Ian McKellen are to star in the Cats movie musical to be directed by Les Miserasbles director Tom Hooper. Cats is based on T S Eliot’s poetry which featured in The Old Possum’s Book Of Practical Cats. Hooper has been preparing the Cats movie musical for the past few years. The film is adapted by Billy Elliot’s Lee Hall. Cats the musical is Broadway’s fourth longest-running musical and the West End’s sixth longest-running musical. It is estimated to have grossed more than $USD 340 million to date and has been translated into more than 20 languages. Cats on stage featured direction by Trevor Nunn, iconic choreography by Gillian Lynne and design by John Napier.

Andrew Lloyd Webber has announced the purrfect tribute to Dame Gillian Lynne with the re-naming of the New London Theatre. This will be the first time that a West End Theatre has been named after a woman. The announcement was made by Andrew Lloyd Webber at a special event at the New London Theatre last night. “I am delighted to be able to announce that the New London Theatre is to be renamed as the Gillian Lynne Theatre,” he said. “Gillian has been a pioneer of British musical theatre and dance. Gillie’s groundbreaking work on Cats inspired and launched countless careers in dance.
