October is going to be a busy month in theatreland with new exciting productions opening all over the place. Here are just a few of the shows we are looking forward to this month. WEST END – The Dresser – Duke Of York’s Ronald Harwood’s The Dresser comes to the West End in a revival starring Ken Stott and Reece Shearsmith at London’s Duke Of York’s Theatre. First seen in 1980 in the West End and on Broadway, this much-loved play tells the heart-breaking story of an ageing actor-manager and his long-suffering dresser as they struggle to keep the show on the road against the backdrop of a down-at-heel regional theatre in wartime. Touted as ‘bold and daring’, The Gog/Magog Project looks at the mysterious demise of performance artist Alexander Gog. Fifteen years ago, Alexander Gog began a project that would see him caged for a year in a theatre delivering nightly performances from his cage, but something went awry. Alexander’s one year of incarceration soon became fifteen, as Gog was moved from theatre to theatre, country to country, surviving only on a diet of The Daily Telegraph and Banana-flavoured ‘Moon Pies”. Billed as an absurdist circus in a cage, The Gog/Magog project is not for the faint-hearted as audiences are invited to travel the myriad labyrinth that forms Gog’s fractured psyche.
