Matilda the musical returns to the Cambridge Theatre in September
Matilda the musical will re-open at the Cambridge Theatre in September ready for the show to celebrate 10 years in the West End.
Now playing at the Cambridge Theatre, London, Matilda the musical tickets continue to be a hot ticket for family trips to the theatre.
Directed by Matthew Warcus, Matilda the musical is based on Roald Dahl’s classic children’s book of the same name which sees Matilda, a precocious 5 year old girl with the gift of telekenesis and a love of reading overcoming obstacles caused by her family and school and she finds her place in the world.
Produced by the Royal Shakespeare Company, Matilda the musical underwent a trial run in Stratford Upon Avon in November 2010 before transferring to the West End’s Cambridge Theatre in November 2011 and opening on Broadway in April 2013.
In London, Matilda the musical West End won seven 2012 Olivier Awards including Best Musical which was, at the time, the highest Olivier awards tally ever picked up by one musical, tying with Hamilton in 2018. The shows three youg Matildas shared the Olvier Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role in a Musical.
At the 2013 Tony Awards, the show won five awards, including the Tony Award for Best Book of a Musical for Dennis Kelly.

The RSC’s West End production of Matilda The Musical has announced the new adult and child cast, including casting the 100th Matilda.
The Royal Shakespeare Company have announced that Matilda, the multi award-winning musical based on Roald Dahl’s beloved book will tour the UK and Ireland for the first time in 2018-19. Winner of 85 international awards, including 16 for Best Musical, the RSC’s touring production of Matilda The Musical will open at Leicester Curve on 5 March 2018. Hayden Tee will join the cast of Matilda the musical London as Miss Trunchbull from September along with other new cast members.
The Royal Shakespeare Company has announced the adult casting for the first five venues for the upcoming UK tour of Matilda the musical. The Matilda UK Tour will launch at the Leicester Curve on 5 March 2018 and will visit Dublin, Sunderland, Milton Keynes, Birmingham, Manchester and Cardiff in 2018. Having now played Miss Trunchbull for three years in the West End, Craige Els will reprise the role on tour. He will be joined on stage by Carly Thomas as Miss Honey, Sebastian Torkia as Mr Wormwood and Rebecca Thornhill as Mrs Wormwood.
