Mary Poppins the musical is now playing in a revival season at London’s Prince Edwards Theatre where it originally opened in 2004 following a tryout at the Bristol Hippodrome.
Mary Poppins the stage musical is based on the original Disney film from 1964 which featured Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke which used the stories of a magical nanny written by author P L Travers as source material. The film and stage show featured a score by Richard M Sherman and Robert B Sherman. Mary Poppins the musical on stage features additional songs written by George Stiles and Anthony Drewe and a script by Julian Fellowes.
The original West End season of Mary Poppins was awarded with Olivier Awards in 2005 for Laura Michell Kelly (Best Actress In A Musical) and Michael Bourne and Richard Eyre for Best Theatre Choreography. When the musical opened on Broadway in 2007 it won the Tony Award for Best Scenic Design along with the Drama Desk for Outstanding Set Design for Bob Crowley and Outstanding Featured Actor in a Musical Tony Award for Gavin Lee who played Bert.
The original London production of Marry Poppins the musical would run from 15 Dec 2004 to 12 January 2009. The revival of the show opened on 23 October 2019 and was temporarily closed during the Covid-19 Pandemic. The show is scheduled to re-open on 22 May 2021.
The original Broadway production would run for 2619 performances closing on 3 March 2013 where it remains the 23 longest-running show on Broadway.

Disney and Cameron Mackintosh have announced casting for their award-winning production of Mary Poppins which is to be presented in Zurich and Dubai in 2017 after the conclusion of its season at the Wales Millenium Centre. Leading the cast in the role of ‘Mary Poppins’ will be Lisa O’Hare for the Zurich season and Zizi Strallen for the Dubai season.
