Mamma Mia! is a jukebox musical with a script by Catherine Johnson based around the songs of ABBA wriiten by Bjorn Ulvaeus and Benny Anderson.
The musical opened in London’s West End on 6 April 1999 at the Prince Edward Theatre, transferring to the Prince Edward Theatre on 9 June 2004 before transferring to the Novello Theatre in September 2012.
Mamma Mia! was directed by Phyllida Lloyd with choreography by Anthony Van Laast. The musical is now the seventh longest-running show in the West End and the ninth longest-running show in Broadway history.
Over 65 million people have seen the show worldwide. The show has spawned two film adaptations in 2008 and 2018.
The musical includes such hits as “Super Trouper”, “Lay All Your Love on Me”, “Dancing Queen”, “Knowing Me, Knowing You”, “Take a Chance on Me”, “Thank You for the Music”, “Money, Money, Money”, “The Winner Takes It All”, “Voulez-Vous”, “SOS” and “Mamma Mia”.
Mamma Mia has been seen in more than 50 countries and continues to run at the Novello theatre.
