Following its recent opening Storyhouse Chester has revealed the first shows in its Spring Season for 2018, with major names in opera, comedy and dance coming to the new venue. The Saint Petersburgh Classic Ballet under the direction of Marina Medvetskaya will make its debut from 16 to 18 February with Giselle and Swan Lake. These two incredibly romantic ballets are sure to delight dance fans. Two favourite comedians are bringing their solo shows to Storyhouse. TV favourite Sarah Millican brings her show Control Enthusiast, a frank, funny and unapologetically filthy look at the comedienne’s need for control on Thursday 22 February 2018. National Youth Ballet 2017 Season

For its 30th Anniversary Season, The National Youth Ballet of Great Britain (“The NYB”) will present Time in Motion, a mixed programme of ballets choreographed by some of the UKs most eminent professionals and rising talents, performed by a company of young dancers aged 8-18 from across the UK. Time in Motion will encompass seven short ballets that together will make a compelling journey through time. Highlights include Scottish Ballet Artistic Director Christopher Hampson’s abstract ballet Carnival set to Saint-Saëns’s humorous score; Birmingham Royal Ballet soloist Jonathan Payn’s classical work IKEN inspired by the Suffolk landscape; a new narrative work by New Adventures Associate Director Etta Murfitt inspired by the Dream Ballet from Oklahoma; and Aspirations, a piece by English National Ballet School’s Director of Dance Samira Saidi. New Adventures have announced that due to popular demand new dates have been added to the World Premiere tour of Matthew Bourne’s The Red Shoes. The Red Shoes will now also play the Sheffield Lyceum, King’s Theatre Glasgow, Wycombe Swan, and Liverpool Empire. Due to unprecedented popularity, the tour will also return to The Lowry and Birmingham Hippodrome. Opening at the Theatre Royal Plymouth in November 2016, the World Premiere tour of The Red Shoes is now five weeks into a sold out eight week Christmas season at Sadler’s Wells where it has received rave reviews.The production is also sold out in Woking and Birmingham with limited availability at venues thoughout February – Milton Keynes and Norwich. Matthew Bourne’s Sleeping Beauty is a gothic tale for all ages; the traditional tale of good vs. evil and rebirth is turned upside-down, creating a supernatural love story that even the passage of time itself cannot hinder. Bourne’s new scenario introduced several characters not seen in Petipa’s famous Ballet or Grimm’s fairy tale. This imaginary kingdom is ruled over by King Benedict and Queen Eleanor. Princess Aurora’s romantic interest is not a Prince, but the royal gamekeeper, Leo. 201 Dance Company have launched a Kickstarter campaign to help take their new show Smother to the Edinburgh Fringe. 201 Dance Co is a new company bringing together experienced artists and producers to create daring new work that is socially responsive and accessible. The company was founded by Andrea Walker who began his dancing career in Rome, Italy aged 14. The company’s ethos centres around creating challenging dance-theatre that crosses urban and contemporary genres. We are driven to confront controversial issues and challenge social prejudices, and through ‘If You Leave’ will begin to partner with advocacy and outreach charities to use exceptional dance theatre as a vehicle for engaging audiences in topical social issues.
