Staged as one of the last five plays performed in England before Oliver Cromwell’s theatre ban, The Cardinal is a captivating story of a religious monster’s relentless pursuit of power. Playwright James Shirley (born 1596) was the last of the great Elizabethan dramatists linking the Golden Age with the age of Restoration. The state of Navarre is in crisis. An unscrupulous Cardinal has the ear of the King and is hungry for power. The Duchess Rosaura longs to marry the Count D’Alvarez, but the Cardinal wants her for his brutish nephew. The National Theatre has announced that after five years in London, their award-winning production of The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Night-Time playing at the Gielgud Theatre will close on Saturday 3 June 2017. The show will undertake a second UK tour starting in January 2017. Adapted from Mark Haddon’s best-selling book by Simon Stephens, the production is the recipient of seven Olivier Awards including Best Play, more than any other single play in West End history. By the time it closes The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Night-Time will have played over 1600 performances and been seen by over 1 million people in London and 2.5 million people worldwide. Harry Potter And The Cursed Child Producers Sonia Friedman and Colin Callender, together with J K Rowling have today confirmed that talks are now well underway to bring the record-breaking show to Broadway in Spring 2018. Exclusive talks are now being held with the Ambassador Theatre Group to bring the hit play to the Lyric Theatre on Broadway. ATG are currently planning multi-million dollar renovations to remodel, transform and reconfigure the 1900 seat theatre, turning it into a more intimate theatre with approximately 1500 seats. The Hamilton Mixtape, a new album featuring artists from the worlds of rap, pop and R & B, putting their own unique stamp on the songs from Hamilton, is being presented today in a live-streamed concert at the Richard Rodgers Theatre. The Hamilton Mixtape features artists including The Roots, Usher, Kelly Clarkson, Ashanti, John Legend, Andra Day, Dessa and Watsky amongst others is being released tomorrow. Copies can be purchased from Amazon.co.uk. Hamilton broke box-office records this week when it made the most money ever in a single week by a Broadway show, a whopping $3.3 million. Hamilton beat Wicked which held the record at $3.2 million made during a week where it held 9 performances, one more than in a normal performance week.
