Public panellists required for the 2015 Olivier Awards

The Society of London Theatre (SOLT) has declared applications open in its annual search for theatregoing members of the public to join the expert panel of professional and public judges of the Olivier Awards 2016 with MasterCard – the most prestigious awards in London theatre.

This is a unique chance to spend a year watching some of the best theatre in the world and judging the shows, before capping off the experience by attending the 2016 awards ceremony and after-show party to mingle with the stars of the London stage.

This year’s judging period starts on 26 February 2015 and runs for approximately one year. Panellists are sought across four categories: Theatre, Affiliate (smaller non-West End London theatres), Opera and Dance. Applicants must be 18 years or older, live within easy reach of London and able to commit to seeing all the eligible shows in their category during the judging year. Panellists usually receive two free tickets to each show, plus a complimentary programme. The number of shows differs between categories, ranging from around 100 plays and musicals for Theatre, to some 30 performances in Opera.

To have the chance to become a panellist, applicants must write a 150 word review of a show they have seen within the past year, and provide a list of productions they have seen in that same period. The deadline for applications is 17:00 on 19 January 2015. Shortlisted candidates will be required for interview at the SOLT offices in Covent Garden on 29 January, 2 February or 17 February 2015. The position is unpaid and expenses are not covered.
