Kenneth Branagh, Rob Brydon, Claudie Blakley, Marcus Fraser, Mark Hadfield and Alex Macqueen make up the cast of the Kenneth Branagh Theatre Company’s new comedy The Painkiller. Directed and adapted by Sean Foley, The Painkiller will be the fifth production in the Plays at the Garrick season and will play from 5 March until 30 April 2016. Foley directs his “dark, yet hilarious” adaptation of Francis Veber’s classic French farce, while Kenneth Branagh and Rob Brydon reprise the roles they played to great acclaim at Belfast’s Lyric Theatre inaugural season. There is a joy to this piece that is impossible to truly describe in words—it has the boisterous nature of Spring Awakening (the musical) but without sung through moments, although the two school uniformed guitarists who make up the pit (or rather balcony) band certainly make you wonder when Melchior is going to come on stage with his wireless hand mic. But where Spring Awakening digs into the cold, Future Conditional runs to the warmth of the cliched hearth.

Kenneth Branagh Company announces further casting for The Winter's Tale and Harlequinade

Kenneth Branagh is back in the West End with a series of plays being presented at the Garrick Theatre under the banner of the Kenneth Branagh Theatre Company. Commencing in October 2015 and running for a year this venture will be under the direction of central creative team which includes central artistic associates Rob Ashford, Christopher Oram and Director/ Adaptor Sean Foley.
