Chicago the musical returned to the West End on Wednesday Night. Take a look at Piers Allardyce’s great photos of Opening Night Curtain Call and the after party at L’Escargot in Soho. Chicago is back in the West End at the Phoenix Theatre starring Cuba Gooding Jr, Sarah Soetaert, Josefina Gabrielle, Ruthie Henshall and Paul Rider. After a knockout show and standing ovation, the cast and other celebrities partied at L’Escargot. Chicago originally ran in London for 15 years, making it the West End’s longest running revival. The show continues to run on Broadway where it is the longest running American musical. Chicago has won six Tony Awards, two Olivier awards and a Grammy. REVIEW: Chicago, Phoenix Theatre ✭✭✭✭
It’s great to see Chicago back in the West End. It’s certainly a show that enjoy revisiting every now and again and I’m sure that this revival will be a crowd pleaser.

Now in previews, Chicago stars Cuba Gooding Jr as Billy Flynn, Sarah Soetaert as Roxie Hart, Josefina Gabrielle as Velma Kelly, Ruthie Henshall as Mama Morton and Paul Rider as Amos Hart. Chicago, which is based on the play by Maurine Dallas Watkins, has a book by Fred Ebb and Bob Fosse, music by John Kander and lyrics by Fred Ebb. The Broadway revival of Chicago was choreographed by Ann Reinking in the style of Bob Fosse, directed by Walter Bobbie and produced by Barry and Fran Weissler. Chicago returns to London’s Phoenix Theatre
Following a five and a half year absence, Chicago the musical returns to London’s West End as the show celebrates its 21st Anniversary. Now the longest-running American musical in history, Chicago will open at the Phoenix Theatre from 26 March 2018. Chicago originally opened at the Adelphi Theatre in 1997 to rave reviews, winning the 1998 Laurence Olivier Award for Outstanding Musical Production. It transferred to the Cambridge Theatre in April 2006, then transferred to the Garrick Theatre until September 2012. It’s fifteen year run made Chicago the West End’s longest-running revival. If you go prepared to be scared, like the audience members who got their feet at the curtain call, you will be, and if, like the woman being helped out of the theatre because she was still laughing hysterically at the Devil, you go to be entertained, then you will be.

Tonight (Halloween!), The Exorcist opens at the Phoenix Theatre London starring Peter Bowles (Father Merrin), Clare Louise Connolly (Regan), Adam Garcia (Father Karras) and Jenny Seagrove (Chris).
