It was a delight to revisit Funny Girl tonight. It’s a wonderfully rich evening in the theatre and the partnering of Barnes and Campbell is pure theatre magic.
Full Casting Announced For UK Tour of Funny Girl
Producers have announced casting for the UK tour of Funny Girl following its acclaimed season at London’s Savoy Theatre last year. Playing opposite Sheridan Smith is Chris Peluso as Nick Arnstein – they will perform in Manchester, Milton Keynes, Liverpool, Bristol, Edinburgh, Birmingham, Newcastle, Southampton, Bradford, Southend, Cardiff and Dublin. Also announced today, the run will extend for a further two weeks, returning to Manchester to complete its run with Smith and Peluso playing the final dates. Natasha J Barnes and Darius Campbell will play Fanny Brice and Nick Arnstein in Stoke, Aberdeen, Woking, Canterbury, Glasgow, Nottingham, Norwich, Llandudno, Wolverhampton and Plymouth. REVIEW: Cinderella, London Palladium ✭✭✭
All in all, this is about as spectacular and over the top as pantomime should ever get. You certainly saw every penny of your ticket price on stage and the audience loved it, for me, I just wanted a bit less innuendo and a bit more family entertainment.
Natasha J Barnes Cast As Cinderella For Palladium Panto
We are absolutely delighted to announce that Natasha J Barnes will play the role of Cinderella in QDOS Entertainment’s production of Cinderella at the London Palladium. Natasha shot to fame when she took to the stage as Fanny Brice in the current production of Funny Girl when its leading lady was indisposed (Read our review). Natasha will be joined on stage by Suzie Chard and Wendy Sommerville who will play the Wicked Stepsisters. Natasha, Suzie and Wendy join the previously announced Paul O’Grady (The Wicked Stepmother), Julian Clary (Dandini), Amanda Holden (The Fairy Godmother), Lee Mead (Prince Charming), Paul Zerdin (Buttons), Nigel Havers (Lord Chamberlain) and Count Arthur Strong (Baron Hardup). Barnes’ Fanny Brice is a musical comedy delicacy, a sumptuous multi-layered confection that should be savoured. On the surface level she tackles Fanny’s big production numbers like Don’t Rain On My Parade and People with ease, but the drama of the piece is also well served.
Natasha J Barnes To Play Fanny As Sheridan Smith Takes Leave Of Absence
Producers have announced that Natasha J Barnes will play the role of Fanny Brice in Funny Girl at the Savoy Theatre for a short period whilst Sheridan Smith takes 2 – 4 weeks leave of absence from the production due to stress and exhaustion. Barnes played the role for the completion of the run at the Menier Chocolate Factory, and again this week at the Savoy – her performance receiving plaudits from audience members and critics alike. The entire team at Funny Girl is thinking of Sheridan, and know she is getting the rest and support she needs during this very difficult and stressful time. We will all miss her enormously and send her our love and best wishes – and we are looking forward to her return to the show in due course.
