Derek McLane provides a set which looks like the shattered innards of a grand piano. The proscenium is framed by bits of piano, and the back wall is almost entirely taken up by a tangle of piano wires – they stand in for the Woods in some ways. But the overall result is that the audience is constantly reminded that they are not watching a musical; they are inside one.
Anna Kendrick makes a marvellous Cinderella, a precise balance between fairytale character and real human. Her scenes with Blunt are wonderful and, for me anyway, Steps of the Palace is the highlight of the film. Chris Pine is terrific and happily sends himself up mercilessly, and to great comic effect, in Agony. Meryl Streep is, throughout, mesmerising.
It really is a day for going Into The Woods as our friends at Broadwayworld.com have unveiled another great feature on the new movie musical this time featuring Anna Kendrick as Cinderella. We hope that you enjoy this great clip and look forward to bringing you more moments in the woods.
