My Quick CV
Simon Wu is an exciting new voice on the London stage. Born in Hong Kong, where he is already an established playwright, Simon has been living and writing in London for the past six years and last year he received an award from the Peggy Ramsey Foundation to support his writing. His play, WOLF IN THE HOUSE, was short-listed for the Gate Theatre’s Translation Award, and also received a rehearsed public reading at the Soho Theatre and at Oval House Theatre. This play, when first produced in Hong Kong in Cantonese, has won the Caltex Drama Award. A work-in-progress of this play was performed at the Tara Arts in July 2008.

His Shanghai-based play, THE PILGRIMAGE OF THE HEART, was performed in May at the West Wing Arts Centre, Slough and in June at the Etcetera Theatre, Camden in 2008. The work-in-progress of his one-man play, JUST THE TWO OF US, was performed in April this year at the Inn on the Green, Notting Hill Gate. He was a member of the Yellow Ink Workshop, organized by the Yellow Earth Theatre for fostering East Asian playwrights. He is an award-winning playwright with seven of his plays performed in Hong Kong.

His co-written radio play, LOOKING FOR STONES, represented Hong Kong in the Worldplay International Radio Drama Festival, broadcast in 1999 including BBC World Service, CBA (Canadian Broadcasting Company) and ABC (Australian Broadcasting Company). He was also commissioned to co-write BARE BRANCHES, a one-hour China-themed radio play for BBC World Service, broadcast in January 2008 and has been commissioned to co-write a radio piece entitled "Demolition Man" based on a video by a Chinese artist to be broadcast on 28 February 2009.

He is also involved in writing film scripts. His short film, MERRY-GO-ROUND, funded by the Enfield Film Fund as part of the Triangle Film Fund supported by Film London, was shown on the opening night of the Wood Green International Short Film Festival in April this year which was also nominated for the Best Local Short Film Award. This film was later shown at the National Film Institute. In 2007 Simon’s film script, CHINA WATCH, was short-listed for the Haringey Short Film Fund which is now in post production. In 2007, he gained a place in the Channel 4 and Wrap X film project, BREAKOUT, a scheme to support non-Caucasian writers and directors in producing commercial films.

Typhoon 6 Playreading Festival 21-25 June

TYPHOON, a festival of playreadings produced by London based Yellow Earth Theatre, celebrates the best East Asian playwriting from the UK and abroad. As part of TYPHOON 6, my play, THE TWO OF US, will be given a rehearsed reading on Tuesday 23 June, a pyschological thriller based on an identical twin. It'll be performed… Continue

Hi Simon.

I see that Wolf In The House is getting great reviews. I am an actor in the Northwest and would like to ask you if you will be taking this place to Manchester any time soon?

Best
Chris
