World Premiere Stage Adaptation Opens at the Everyman Theatre, Cheltenham

Producers Jack Maple and Thomas Hopkins have announced the first-ever UK tour of a brand-new stage adaptation of Patricia Highsmith’s psychological thriller The Talented Mr Ripley. The production will open at the Everyman Theatre, Cheltenham, on 4 September 2025, with an official press night on 10 September, marking the 70th anniversary of the novel’s publication .
This Faction production is adapted and directed by Mark Leipacher, known for his acclaimed stagings of Mary Stuart and A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and promises a fresh and thrilling take on Highsmith’s enduring story of obsession, deception, and murder.
A Dark Tale of Identity and Ambition
First published in 1955 and widely regarded as one of the greatest crime novels of the 20th century, The Talented Mr Ripley has been famously adapted for the screen in the 1999 Oscar-nominated film starring Matt Damon, Jude Law, and Gwyneth Paltrow, and more recently in the 2024 Netflix series starring Andrew Scott.
The new production transports audiences to 1950s Italy, where Tom Ripley, a man of modest means and no real prospects, is sent by a wealthy businessman to retrieve his son, Dickie Greenleaf, from his idyllic Mediterranean life. But as Tom is drawn into Dickie’s world of wealth and privilege, the line between admiration and obsession begins to blur—with deadly consequences .
Featuring razor-sharp dialogue, atmospheric staging, and a chillingly charismatic antihero, this adaptation promises to deliver a suspenseful, visually rich evening of theatre.
