Sonia Friedman will produce a new production of Edward Albee’s Who’s Afraid Of Virginia Woolf? starring Imelda Staunton and Conleth Hill at the Harold Pinter Theatre for a limited 13 week season. In the early hours of the morning on the campus of an American college, Martha, much to her husband George’s displeasure, has invited the new professor Nick and his wife Honey to their home for some after-party drinks. As the alcohol flows and dawn approaches, the young couple are drawn into George and Martha’s toxic games until the evening reaches its climax in a moment of devastating truth-telling. Lara Pulver and Peter Davison Join Imelda Staunton In Gypsy

Imelda Staunton to appear in Gypsy at The Savoy Theatre

It has been announced that Peter Davison (Legally Blonde, Spamalot, Doctor Who) will join the cast of Gypsy playing Herbie alongside Imedla Staunton as Moma Rose. Lara Pulver (Parade, Honk!, The Last Five Years) will reprise the role of Louise with further casting to be announced. Gypsy is considered by many to be the greatest of the Broadway musicals. It tells the true story of ambitious showbiz mother Momma Rose, who treks across America with her daughters Baby June and Louise in search of success with their homespun vaudeville act. As times change, Momma Rose is forced to accept the demise of vaudeville and the rise of burlesque, as well as her daughters’ quest for autonomy. Gypsy Starring Imedla Staunton To Transfer

Imelda Staunton as Mamma Rose in Gypsy

Baz Bamigboye has reported in the Daily Mail today that the musical Gypsy starring Imelda Staunton will transfer to the Savoy Theatre for a 35 week run from March 30 to November 28. This production marks the first time that Gypsy has been seen in London since Angela Lansbury played the role 40 years ago. The production is directed by Jonathan Kent who directed Imelda and Michael Ball in the multi award winning production of Sweeney Todd which also hailed from Chichester Festival Theatre.
